Walla Mono extends the tension already present in Walla by embedding it within the rigid structure of a monospace typeface. Inspired by the spontaneous writings and graphic language of August Walla, it turns the regularity of fixed-width spacing into a field of friction, where repetition and disruption coexist.
Where the monospace imposes cadence, alignment, and uniformity, Walla Mono introduces subtle shifts, unstable details, and expressive detours that disturb this systematic logic. These tensions emerge through selected letter alternates, such as the “i”, “l”, “t”, and “f” as well as through a system of pulses adapted to the monospace framework. The forms remain grounded in a rational and functional construction while allowing more impulsive gestures to surface, between mechanical discipline and spontaneous expression.
